The North Woods country is calling. The Daily News in Iron Mountain, on the border of Michigan's Upper Peninsula and northeastern Wisconsin, needs a sports editor or writer, depending on experience. We take pride in highlighting prep sports in five counties on both sides of the border and, while off the beaten path, we've had area teams make it to state championship games almost every year for more than a decade. The past 12 months alone produced a Michigan state title runner-up in baseball, two boys basketball teams in the state semis and a state champion in football. Off the job, the region offers outdoor recreation: biking, hiking, kayaking and canoeing, camping, fishing, hunting, ATV and snowmobile trails, all easily accessible.
