MPA Foundation Fellowship Program

The Dave Trott Journalism Fellowship
Students from journalism programs at Michigan’s colleges and universities will be invited to participate in a two day program at the State Capitol in Lansing.  We anticipate 4-6 students will be part of the program.

Students will be assigned to produce a story for a local audience that demonstrates what they learn about a hot topic in our state (2026 will be Transparency & Community in our state).  The Fellowship dates will be during Sunshine Week in March 2027. (Sunshine Week runs March 14th – 20th)

We will provide programming for students to meet with experts on the chosen topic, and we will host them in Lansing for one night.  We will also cover other travel costs, such as food and gas.

MPA will recruit professional journalists to mentor students as they conduct interviews and craft their stories.
