Beginning as a wide-eyed young writer as a freshman in 2015, I have grown throughout the years as a sports writer at Grand Valley State University. From being the one who gets the leftover stories to the right-hand man of the sports editor to the Editor-in-Chief, I feel that I am still far from reaching my potential.
My love for sports and natural writing skill work together to make me the best journalist I can be. I have grown comfortable with AP Style, learned how to quickly write a game recap by deadline, creatively come up with intriguing profile features and adapt to quickly-evolving situations.
My goal is to eventually become a sports beat writer with a major program, either collegiate or professional, covering football, baseball or basketball.
Education
Experience
As my college internship, I wrote about west Michigan high school and college sporting events. I met strict deadlines and explored outside my comfort zone while writing several stories per week and commuting to places outside of the GVSU area I had gotten comfortable in.
Beginning as a staff writer in 2015, I have evolved as a student, writer and journalist, leading up to my promotion to Editor-in-Chief in 2018. I edit dozens of stories weekly, write, handle a full staff and mentor younger writers regularly as part of my job in addition to business, advertising and promotional affairs.
I covered GVSU sports including football, men's and women's basketball, baseball, volleyball, lacrosse, rugby, swimming, golf, track and field, rugby, hockey and more.
