The Dave Trott Journalism Fellowship
Students from journalism programs at Michigan’s colleges and universities will be invited to participate in a two day program at the State Capitol in Lansing. It’s anticipated that 4-6 students could be part of the program.
The students will be assigned to produce a story for a local audience that demonstrates what they learn about a hot topic in our state (2025 will be transparency issues in our state.) The dates for the Fellowship are TBD but will either be in October 2025 or Spring 2026.
We will provide programming for the students to meet with experts on the chosen topic and we will put them up in Lansing for one night. We will also cover other travel costs like food and gas.
MPA will recruit professional journalists to mentor the students as they do their interviews and craft their stories.
All of the stories will be available to MPA members for publication. consideration to:lisa@michiganpress.org.
