MiWebNet

Introducing MiWebNet, a way for MPA member newspapers to realize new revenue from online advertising...

MiWebNet is an online sales network that can bring new revenue to MPA member newspapers. It is a partnership between MPA and Dot Connect Media.*

What doesMiWebNet mean for my newspaper?
Fourteen hundred newspaper web sites across the country already take advantage of Dot Connect Media’s network sales effort. With the MiWebNet partnership, DCM and MPA will sell national advertising onto each participating newspaper’s Web site with a percentage of the revenue going to the newspaper, a percentage to DCM and a percentage to MPA. MiWebNet guarantees revenue to all participating newspapers by virtue of its remnant program.

This network of newspaper Web sites across the country will provide advertisers with high traffic surrounded by local contact combined with an ease of purchase that rivals Google and Yahoo! ONLY a national network of newspaper Web sites can provide that.

How do I participate?
Participating newspapers allocate anywhere from 10-100 percent of their web site inventory to MiWebNet. This designation on the part of the newspaper determines how much opportunity there is to secure national and/or remnant revenue. If at any given time, a premium advertiser (one paying the going cost per thousand rate) is not advertising on your web site, DCM's remnant advertising plan kicks in. A remnant advertiser is one that has agreed to advertise, at a reduced rate, on all participating newspapers’ web sites when inventory is available. This guarantees monthly revenue!

There is no initial up-front cost to any newspaper with a web site to participate in MiWebNet. Participating newspapers will be encouraged to offer the three standard sizes recommended by the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) on their site. The sizes are 728 x 90, 300 x 250 and 160 x 600. Many newspapers already offer one, two or all three of these sizes on their site. A participating newspaper will not need to offer all three, however, advertisers will request specific sizes and only those papers with the requested size available will receive the advertising.

If your newspaper does not currently have a Web site, now is the perfect time to develop one and start taking advantage of this easy revenue source. To learn more about how to develop your web site, contact MPA for information on upcoming educational opportunities.

More to Know...

When will my newspaper web site start making money?
There is 100 percent probability your newspaper will earn new revenue beginning the very first month.

Is it hard to earn money through MiWebNet?
No! In fact, it couldn’t be easier...
1. You sign up for MiWebNet.
2. You make ad space available on your Web site.
3. You make money.

How much revenue can my newspaper earn?
The amount of revenue your newspaper will earn depends on who sells the ads and whether the ad is sold as part of DCM's remnant program or at the prevailing MPA rate.

When ads are sold onto your Web site:

If Dot Connect Media sells the advertising-
50% of the revenue goes to the participating newspapers,
25% goes to DCM and 25% goes to MPA

If MPA sells the advertising-
40% of the revenue goes to the participating newspapers,
20% is retained by DCM and 40% is retained by MPA

If a newspaper sells an ad into the network-
50% of the revenue goes to the newspaper,
15% goes to DCM and 35% goes to MPA

DCM guarantees revenue to all participating newspapers through its remnant program. Several national advertisers have partnered with DCM and whenever a “full price” ad is not sold, it fills the spots with a remnant ad from one
of these advertisers. For remnant ads, participating newspapers receive 50% of the revenue and DCM retains 50%.
